ANF-Abercrombie and Fitch
-Recommend

Abercrombie & Fitch, established in 1892, gained fame for outfitting expeditions for the likes of Teddy Roosevelt and Ernest Hemingway, but it is best known today as a rapidly growing specialty retailer of casual apparel for young men and women.

ANF's strategy is to combine its historical image of quality with a new emphasis on casual American style and youthfulness. Stores are located primarily in regional shopping malls across the U.S. At May 28, 2005, the company operated 351 A&F stores. Sales for the A&F brand were $1.2 billion in FY 05, or approximately 59% of consolidated sales.

ANF anticipated FY 06 capital spending of $240 million to $250 million, with $205 million to $215 million for new/remodel store construction, and the balance primarily for home office and distribution center projects and miscellaneous projects. The company planned to increase with 67 new Hollister stores, five RUEHL stores and five international stores in Canada. Additionally, ANF established two European subsidiaries that are expected to begin opening stores in Europe by 2006.

StockMonkey's Analysis - High-margin goods = high profits. Merchandise pictured on quasi-naked youths on their marketing and stores, and paraded around campus by hot quasi-naked youths, sorority girls, jocks, and those who are really jailbait. From Warren Buffet's school of investment, great product = great investment. Currently priced at $68, targeted at $80.
